A Central Coast Adventure

January 16, 2011

Wendy and I are on a quick trip up the Central Coast–not really a geocaching trip–but we did pick up 5 today.

The first stop was at Arroyo Paredon outside of Carpenteria.  I’ve tried this one before, without luck.  Today, it was a quick find.  The photo above is opposite the cache, looking out toward the Channel Islands.  The view of the islands was the best I have seen in years.

We made a quick stop in Buellton and I got another find of a previously DNFed cache–Ranch & Country Rest Stop.  Tried it twice before and walked right to it today.

Another previously DNF cache–In Harmony–moved into the found column today.  I guess today was just a good one for previous DNFs.

We stopped at the location of Monarch’s Rest.  It’s the largest winter home of the Monarch butterflies.

We finished the day with a visit to the Piedras Blancas rookery of the Northern Elephant Seal, Mirounga angustirostris.  It’s quite a sight.  This was a good time for a visit.  The females are giving birth and we saw newly born seals for the first time.  For more information about this area, check out this link:  http://www.elephantseal.org/ The San Simeon Seal and Sunset Spot by campyc (GC112NV) is located here.

Today was a great adventure.  I sure beats being stuck somewhere in the snow.
